GoodFriday: The power of play, the courage to start over, & protein hack
Happy GoodFriday!
Here’s something I heard, thought, and did this week.
Something I Heard:
I saw this quote a few years ago while my family and I were at a park in Malibu. At one end of the park lie a commemorative plaque that read, “You can discover more about a person in an hour of play, than in a year of conversation.” - Plato
Love this!
Something I Thought:
Achieving success is hard enough on it’s own. But what happens when you've already climbed a mountain—only to find yourself at the bottom again? Maybe life forced a reset. Maybe you lost a job, faced an injury, battled an illness, or encountered an unexpected setback. Are you willing to start over? Are you ready to be a beginner again?
The ego resists that idea. It tells us we've already put in the work, already proven ourselves. It whispers that starting over is beneath us. We look back at everything we built—the hours, the sacrifices, the struggle—and wonder if we have it in us to go through it all again.
And yet, that's the defining question: Will you get back up?
Starting over isn’t just about effort; it’s about humility. It’s about having the courage to embrace the grind again, knowing full well what it takes. The road isn’t easier the second time—it’s harder because now you know the weight of the journey ahead. But you also know something else: You've done it before, and you can do it again.
So, will you?
Something I’m Doing:
I started eating Kirkland canned chicken breast lately to help me get to my protein goals. These things are 210 calories, 3.5g of fat, 0 carbs, and 45.5g of protein per can! Depending on where my protein intake is for the day I’ll eat one or two cans to get a quick jump on my macros. With a little bit or Sriracha or mustard on it, it tastes pretty damn good!
If you enjoy a bit more flavor, here’s a Sweet and Spicy Aioli you can try:
2-4 Tbsp of low fat mayo
3-4 Tbsp of Sriracha
1 Tbsp of Momofuku chili crunch
2-3 Tbsp of honey
These ingredients are general guidelines. You can add or subtract any of them to fit your taste preferences.
Until next week!
